Election Debate in Admin Forum
I have been watching this go on for awhile now and it amazes me at how ALFA is still so caught up in the smaller little camps it has always been in. Rotku wants to change the voting requirements for Lead to include all members of ALFA. I think this is a good thing to allow everyone to vote on who represents us all. We have for too long allowed smaller cliques and groups to put up a token members to represent them and their views of how ALFA should be. Its better for us as a project to allow all members to decide who they want to deal with the issues that need to be dealt with.
I am with Rotku in thinking that all Admin positions should be voted on by the ALFA body in general. Somehow the DMA thinks that only Dms should vote on his elected position because somehow Dms are better than those of us who are just members. I personally do not care if your DM or do PR work for the project all members should have a say so.
For the most part all the Admin have done a decent job recently. Its a thankless job that requires a ton of work especially with the jump to NWN2. We need strong leadership now more than ever. I think giving the ALFA body the ability to pick their leader is a good thing. It promotes trust in our leaders, gives the masses a voice in how things are going, and might spark others to run or chip in to help.
What I see in some of our previous Admin and one in particular Admin now is fear. They want to set the rules to a point where they can kinda control who gets to vote and in the end have an easier time swaying those folks to vote in their favor. Isnt this just stupid? We are a gaming project not the floor of the US Senate. All the politicing is just ascinine and has no need.
You people wanted more say so in things years ago when a good number of you pulled your little "quake" and now you have the process you now have. Instead of always giving those small little cliques and people a say so in the process open the doors wide and allow all of us a say so in how this place is run. You want more help from the ALFA community then show us your willing to listen.
Currently, this vote issue amongst the Admin is 2 for the right of all members to vote and 2 Admin against the right of all members to vote. I urge all of you to talk with your Admin, PM them, or see them in chat and let them know how you feel.

Does the Admin against the proposal have real valid reasons? Do they not think the player base can make sound decisions? Its a fear that their authority would be underminded or taken away by those they think are less intelligent than they are. They are use to calling the shots. If their not doing a proper job they can be voted out. Its fear that the player base would drive them out of calling the shots that I would suspect have them vote against this.
DMs are nothing special. You use a program, you build, you roleplay with others. Most folks who play can also Dm. The Infra Admins position is one who I can really only see as one players might not have a legit claim on voting for. There are a lot of issues that that domain takes on that most players dont understand. You also could go the other way and look at how Barrend ran as the Infra Admin, though, and say the playerbase should have a say so since in his term everything was handed in a very heavy tone and sometime downright hostile manner.
The playerbase can make sound choices. The place isnt rocket science. Its been fear thats made the Admin positions what they are today. Fear of getting control and losing it. Fear of not being able to direct the course of what happens here.
Its also fear thats set this project back and driven off tons of players and Dms/ builders alike. Shouldnt it be time to take a different approach?

It amazes me that when a chance comes up to give the ALFA players more say so on what goes on around here that we get this thread spammed with stupid pictures and DMs and former Admin acting silly. I guess the majority just dont care anymore.

Ive cared about this project since I came here. This project is at its lowest its ever been. A lot has to do with the new game and its many problems and learning curve, but a lot has to do with the attitude of the folks who are left here and what ALFA has become because of the way they have mishandled the project. Its no wonder most of the original folks left long ago. They saw the futility of trying to run a project this large with so many different attitudes and such. Instead of working together the project suffers from stiffleness and people with invisible power issues.
We have seen Dms in the past who twinked their favorite players, Admin who abused their powers by banning folks who shouldnt have been and pushed other HDMs and Dms aside. My main goal of even bringing this up is giving the whole base of ALFA the right to vote means those in charge have to earn their positions. No more waffling and lazyness. No more bogging down in endless debate with nothing to show for it. Make them answer to the playerbase. Recall means nothing if only certain folks can actually make it happen. It doesnt take but a few people in charge to cock block those attempts or dismiss them altogether
All Im saying is the players have for a long time wanted more say so in how things are going here. We have a lot of new players coming in lately and it would be nice to show that their opinions matter instead of "this is how we roll" take it or leave it. Most have left.
ALFA needs to rebuild its image. This would be one positive step.

To attack the view that opposes your own with accusations of fear and jealously guarding their coveted positions, you hurt your own argument.
Fear?
thank you for making me laugh this morning, though I'm getting plenty of entertainment from within the game.

As much as I like to get riled up over the 'quake' (I still hate that term, whoever coined it should be banned - Mikayla I think) it's pretty silly to make accusations like 'you people' when most of the folk involved have departed or are no longer DMs/Admin.You people wanted more say so in things years ago when a good number of you pulled your little "quake"

I also coined the term "Underground" as applied to the ALFAQuake's progenitors. I am just chock-full of pithy labels waiting to be applied to unsuspecting events and people. We all have to have a talent ...As much as I like to get riled up over the 'quake' (I still hate that term, whoever coined it should be banned - Mikayla I think)
