Don't shake at me! But when the 2 PC rule came into effect a heavy weight of sadness pushed down and crunched my giddy heart. The one pillar I really was proud for ALFA having, that I just still can't believe is gone, was the 1 PC only rule.
I absolutely know why it was brought in. Go for it. Have fun if needing a 2nd PC does that...and if playing 1 PC, retiring when ready and making another is "not fun" or "not as fun", for me, it was about sticking to a story, and low player density or not, it was never an issue in the least for me to play 1, and have more than enough fun with only 1.
JUST RAMBLING AND PASSIVELY VENTING BELOW THIS: Please don't even read it if you are in a mood to be trashing me...yes, i'm an old player, who hates the 2 PC rule... so read on for kicks if you're bored, but perhaps your time would be better spent playing than reading another one or two of my (pointless) opinions about 2 PC shite rule.
Now... one of these "big reasons" advocates for the 2nd PC state paramount to its institution is:
"
If my 1st PC is on MS, and no other players are on MS, and I wanna play with the 3 players on TSM right now, I can roll a 2nd PC and play TSM now! yay!"
Absolutely. You just found a way, to RP with others right now. Great!
But... allow me to parry, dodge, and block this idea...
You have no idea how many people have sent me this tell: (and this is not even the biggest reason i hate the 2 PC rule)
"
Aw shit, can't meet up on BG, my 2nd PC is on BG, not allow to go there"
The immediate above shows the OPPOSITE result for me (and has to be for others) that a 2nd PC increases RP possibilities

. And you'd be very surprised how many times i've seen that message: "
I cannot meet to RP with you on Server A, sorry, cause my 2nd PC is on Server A".
That 2nd PC has NOTHING to do with the RP that is fun and that "should IC happen" with the 1st PC... with my PC.
So... for me, RP with another player for specific IC purposes in this case (of many), cannot happen, for an entirely OOC reason...thus no RP! with an OOC source blocking it at that.
Riposte, parry, deflect....
The biggest thing for me though, was retirement. It really was something of a special awe that revolved around a player who did stick to one PC, for such a long time (if that PC wasn't powergamed to a high level quickly).
Additionally (for me), was the true special feeling of achievement and satisfaction any player I think would get/feel when he/she after playing a PC for so long, most likely made such an impact on the Realm, decided... it's time. Retire. Maybe as an NPC to forever be a permanent fixture somewhere on a live server. A monument if you will to memories and nostalgia for every player maybe who encountered that PC when that PC was active, and especially for the player who played that PC for so long, and decided; "Hey, what a great run. Retire." ...then make a new PC and play on.
****But now*****: Guess what. Not only, can EVERYONE keep their high level PC active... when a 2nd PC is made... the first uber PC NEVER EVER needs to ...pass on... even if that PC's time REALLY HAS passed. Retirement is needed. Get over it. It should never be forced! But a player should know when that time has come.
And don't get me started on "retro-actively" allowing already Retired PCs back, after the 2 PC rule came into effect after older PCs were already retired. OMG i think i really did cry when I realised this was allowed.
*sigh* *sigh* *sigh* *sigh* *sigh* *sigh* *sigh*
ha! boy i'm in trouble now. Oh well.
Anyway,
holy RE-HASH a dead horse, sorry to have brought again this negativity.
I will never ever think that ALFA won this round. As i said before, i know why it happened. I can adapt since i LOVE this server group and the community...but with an echoing sigh:
"Meh."
Let's hope permadeath sticks!
