Linking new player welcome type of posts with useful info they can practically apply is a brilliant idea. i.e. post a hello, and link to the 'introduction to TSM/BG/MS' thread as well as DM schedules, little nudge in a direction that might work out for them, etc is both friendly, welcoming, and useful.
Probably a good idea to work on getting more BG and TSM DMs though... I wouldn't point any new players to BG right now with it's lack of DMs.

Well, you know, Swift has always been a lightning rod for controversy. Some liked him and others didn't. They couldn't agree on whether to simply ban Swift and be done with it, so there was a divorce. ALFA got custody of Swift.
