HEEGZ Lead Admin Platform 2014

Post by HEEGZ »

Per our charter:
Lead Administrator (LA) --
Oversight of Administration, Veto & Referral Authority, Election Oversight, and Public Relations. Also responsible for resolving disputes over domain classification of any particular issue.
I feel that I am well qualified for this role, having previously served as DMA and PA, as well as many years DMing and playing in ALFA. I have good relationships with the currently serving admin. I understand the particulars of how ALFA functions behind the scenes, as well as disciplinary issues, etc. that may arise from the PA and DMA side of things that may require LA veto action.

If elected, I will likely assign a staff member responsibility to initiate elections on the proper date. I will also seek out 1-2 community members to help on the public relations front. This is the prime motivator for me running for LA. I feel like ALFA may be poised for a fresh change in 2015 to a new gaming platform. I'd like to see legacy support maintained for NWN 2 (and 1 if necessary) for as long as there is member interest and host/HDM support.

There have been a few discussions floated this year about the next generation of ALFA. Perhaps Shards Online is that game, perhaps something else. I feel like I have the leadership needed to oversee any needed changes to the charter or pillars to make such a transition possible. At present, the pillars mandate D&D and Forgotten Realms Faerun as our setting. WIthout changing legacy support for NWN, we should consider loosening these pillars for an ALFA 3.0 due to licensing and legal issues.

It is my belief that a D&D FR game will not happen for ALFA any time soon, and we need to be forward thinking now. So a vote for me is a vote for maintaining the status quo while looking forward to something different as a future platform for us to game. This would bring in new blood with a new system, while still supporting the game we have now. I am a firm believer in ALFA as a Hardcore Roleplay and Permadeath gaming community. If elected, I only wish to seek freedom for ALFA from the pillars of D&D and FR Faerun for a third game platform. I would like to use this election as an impetus to make the changes needed for a successful future gaming platform for ALFA.

It looks like you're keen on delegation for the core LA responsibilities (at least in the position as she plays now; if there have been real considerations of vetos this last year, it is news to me)-- is there something you're saving the personal touch for?

Did you have anyone lined up for the calendar reminder and/or community representative roles?

I've asked AnalogKid if he will take on the voting cycle oversight, if I'm elected. I'd rather not delegate the community relations role, as that is something I feel I would naturally do myself. As for a personal touch, I helped guide ALFA during the NWN1 to NWN2 transition, and foresee myself being in a similar preparatory role from NWN2 to ALFA Next if the need arises.

One of the biggest mistakes I feel I ever made in ALFA (while DM Admin during NWN1) was siding with other leaders on the closure of our NWN1 servers to move people on to NWN2. In hindsight we should have supported both formats. At the time the admin felt we did not have the resources to administrate two game formats. I now feel that we made a strategic mistake and should have continued legacy support for NWN1 all along. I partly blame this on the hype of NWN2 and the naive assumptions that the game was going to improve significantly, instead of a horizontal shift in style.

So if I'm elected Lead Admin and ALFA does move towards a new game system, I would want to provide legacy support for NWN1 and NWN2 gaming groups for as long as people are willing to host/DM/play in those games. Maybe nothing will change, but I would like to see some active leadership present in ALFA in case the need is there. Having spent some time looking at Shards Online, I feel there is some real potential and thus this platform.

whatever happens with the gaming platform choice we need to have a focus on membership. We need a formal plan for membership recruitment and retention. ALFA is a club and all clubs live and die on the size of their member base. that's not a question so much as a statement of my view of things.
