That song just played on my Johnny Cash Pandora station on the drive to work this morning. Somehow I think it works better for him than for its originator, but I guess I dont really know anything about NIN or Trent Reznor to say.

Well, the NIN version doesn't get much radio play today on account of being from '94. But if you're keen on the sort, it might be worth noting that Hurt is the last track in an album with a pointed order and progression to its songs, (being The Downward Spiral, which is overall about lost faith, lost control, lost meaning, and the accompanying emotion-- and it's probably way more appropriate for a fallen paladin than it looks at first glance on account) for which Hurt is the broken/lost/miserable end state.
