Aglaril's 'tour' of the Marches

Post by Ithildur »

Old maps... likely in need of updating, but they will have to do for now, thought the elf as he placed them inside a scroll case.

A final check of his packing... he certainly had enough foodstuffs to feed a small village in his slightly magical bag, and his cloak would keep him magically warm. The usual selection of weapons, scrolls, and alchemicals items... a few potions in the belt slots, and of course, light armor comfortable enough to take reverie inside the heavy tent... Aglaril deemed himself ready.

Time to revisit places I once knew and see what has changed... if indeed anything has truly changed at all.

The elf looked about his dormitory room one last time, then stepped out the door. As he closed it shut a thought went through his mind, bringing a smirk to his face as he considered the magically verbose door.

"A farewell would be nice, don't you think Rayne?"

Squeak!

((the plan is to have Aglaril visit a number of locations in the region on a rather lengthy trip with a few goals in mind; it would be fun to do ingame preferably with a handful of other players, and DM involvement is certainly welcome. If none of that materializes, if a DM would be willing to respond in this thread covering some details of what he finds that would not be represented ingame that would be awesome; willing to roll skillchecks like gather information if needed.

Likely target locations:

Winters Edge (with it's history during the Horde plot, a natural place to look into for possible ties with the current Banite rampage)

Path from Winters Edge northwest to the frozen regions/glaciers

Settlestone and surrounds, including possibly the Dungeon of Ruin if access can be obtained (Aglaril was given information by a PC related to the Dungeon that may be relevant to the current Banite situation)

(no choice but to avoid Fourthpeak for now until Rorax responds to the IC scouting posts)

The far northwest regions of the server might also bear looking into

And...

The obscured valley from Silverymoon pass
(optional: depending on what we find above, possibly a preliminary scouting trip into upper <redacted>)

Might be interested, assuming we get the other several plot lines tamed first.

I heard there are a group of Hins in Rivermoot that loves a good adventure!
pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

Instead of new caves.. why not open back up the old caves that were closed down for what ever reason?

Which caves were they and from when were they in the mod?

Curm has a full backup of every version of TSM from the day it launched, but needless to say, it would be an incredible amount of work to go through them to find caves that were taken out (for whatever reason).

Aglaril's eyes widened at the sight. Clearly the area before them was magical in nature, or had been at one time at least. The elf quickly cast Detect Magic, with Leif following suit with his own casting of the spell, concentrating to determine the nature of any possible magical auras...

Before departing the place, Aglaril paused and studied the statue for a long while silently. Could this place truly have been the remains of elven ruins?

((Interesting Place found! Now if only a DM could provide some feedback to various Detect Magics, spellcraft and Knowledge rolls that were attempted...

Was a little bit odd to travel past hill giants and stuff to find a place full of CR 1ish mobs... I'm guessing it's another one of those 'needs DM presence' areas on TSM...))

She was still there, just around the bend; the giantess' footsteps could clearly be heard. Was it possible that the females among their kind might be inclined to speak rather than battle first? Aglaril doubted it, but still, he decided it was worth attempting, for the sake of the Marches... He stepped into the giantess' view, longsword held in his right hand but lowered.

"Hold! I wish to speak with you, if you..."

Aglaril's eyes narrowed as he immediately recognized the spell the giantess was casting: a potent form of Inflict Wounds. There would be no parlay with this one, the elf thought as she rushed at him with murder in her eyes: he knew that life draining negative energy was being infused into her cold, monstrously large white hand.

Aglaril's longsword whirled into motion, humming through the air as his consciousness reached for the Song. The elven blade drew forth a crimson fountain as it bit deeply into pale flesh, the giantess screaming in pain and rage as the spell was disrupted before completion.

Mere moments later, the Elf stood over the fallen corpse. There was blood everywhere it seemed: numerous deep, scarlet gashes on the fallen giantess, crimson splotches staining the snow all around them, and a single stain of red on his own armor - though he couldn't be sure whose blood it was.

The giantess was as pale in death as she had been in life, and now that the look of rage had passed, Aglaril thought her face rather fair. She had pale skin, blue hair and eyes... strangely enough they recalled to his memory the features of a Moon Elf etriel he'd once known.

Removing a glove in spite of the cold, Aglaril reached down and gently closed the giantess' open eyes.

Fascinating...

The book and scrolls, of course, had to be examined one more time, using methods both arcane and mundane that were available to him. The gems too, though Aglaril guessed that their mystery would not be uncovered until the right 'lock' or door was found.

((note, there's a second scroll here that I assume is useable/readable like the first, but it's unreachable due to the walkmesh not allowing a PC to get close enough))

Aglaril searched the place rather thoroughly, enjoying an unexpected moment's respite from the bitter cold outside... He was especially careful to examine the many chests/footlockers in the place.

I suppose I've come a long ways, thought the Elf to himself as he descended down the long ladder into darkness. I still remember how much I loathed this place... the dread that nearly overwhelmed me, the fear.

Feh, it's far from pleasant even now.
