"Back. As promised." Xiu Li stood in place, her only motion a deferential nod to the hin of Rivermoot.

"and..." Marshall continued for her. Rather, tried to continue for her. Unfortunately, the Kara-turan woman was already distracted by a pouch at her waist and his facilitation merely hung there. She eventually found two handfuls of what she sought and she cupped her hands together to present them as a whole to him.

The smell was almost unbearable. In her hands, she held several unrecognizable chunks of darkened flesh, some still moist and all caked in blood in several spots.

"Eight in all. Camped down the hill from the watchtower." She hesitated a moment with a shake of her head, then continued "Seven there. Killed another on the walk up. All yours." With that, she urged them toward the hin. Kadalion recoiled at the intensity of the stench of the things. He found himself wondering if she'd brought noses as ordered, or instead had chosen assholes to bring back as a joke. He glanced this way and that, looking for something to receive the repulsive trophies. He must have been taking too long, because after a moment she urged them further, making contact with his chest. He felt his face contort reflexively against the rancid odor.

He glanced up to the woman's face and realized she wore the slightest hint of a smile. He was tempted to think her somewhat attractive when she unceremoniously dumped the orc noses at his feet. He kicked off one that had perched on his boot and then looked back to her. Her smirk was now gone, replaced with the all-business demeanor she usually wore. He marveled at the switch only briefly before returning to his own businesslike tack.

"Right. Ten per is what we agreed, yes?"

"Is, yes." She followed with a curt affirming nod.

"Very well." He opened up his small lock box and quickly counted out the sum. Handing it over to her, he continued,"the path to Fourthpeak is clear, then. Have your assurance on that?"

"Never said that," she offered quickly with a slight shake of the head. "Said it is clear of orcs far as the watchtower. Would have to venture again to know about Fourthpeak." Her hint of a smile returned, actually somewhat charming. "More dangerous. More coin required."

There it was. The mercenary within the maiden. Such warmed his heart and he could not help but offer a smirk of his own as he nodded once his agreement. "Aye, lass. More coin."
Talk less. Listen more.

Folk in Rivermoot saw the Red Knight, Lady Vellya, once known as Lady Blood-Axe during the first orc-war, carving on Sword Rock, the memorial she started so many years ago. The name she added was Argos Klax. When asked about it, all she said was that it was long overdue.

Just past mid day a few day ago a traveler was said to be speaking of a strange sight in Rivermoot...

"A whole gaggle of them hin just walked right out of the thick and onto the road, I 'ad to drive m'wagon near into a ditch to keep from runnin them down. Odd ones they were too, dressed in skins and only a few wearing shoes at all. Gonna regret that what with the coming winter I is sure, yes I am. But when I shouted out at them they just looked at me, like they ain't never seen a man w'ta wagon of chickens b'for. One of em waved goodbye and walked as bold a ye can up de road and over the bridge. Right up the mid ye see, as if he did'na see or care about de horses or carts. Oddest part, not a one spoke a word. The rest ov em mounted the hilltop and watch'ed 'im round and go into de fort, then just faded back into the wilderness.

Damn odd it was... watched im walk in, and back out with a group dem adventurous types, and up the road wavin is hands about but never say'n a word. I unloaded me birds and come in to get some food and sleep. When I wakes up.. there's that odd little feller sittin up on a ledge in the tavern common, just staring at e'erytin like it's all an oddity like 'im. Look at 'im up der.. just starin away... "

Rivermoot
The guard is warning people to be careful around the plantation as a result of a rat infestation. They are also offering a reward for any adventurers to go clear out the rat infestation - but warn potential adventurers to not attempt it alone, some of the rats are of substantial size and could be dangerous to a lone adventurer.

Knight In Silver Police Blotter, Ches 11, 1399

In this week's South Silverymoon Police Blotter, Knights in Silver stationed at the Moonbridge responded to a disturbance at the Vault of Sages last night. Upon arrival, they were informed by a Vault of Sages employee who wishes to remain anonymous that a "party of probably drunken students from a nearby campus had entered restricted premises of the Vault. How they received authorization and the necessary Duraph Token is a subject of an internal investigation."

Staff onsite in the restricted area approached the group in an attempt to escort them off the premises and were set upon by spell and physical force. At least two staff members suffered injury that required healing by divine intervention from their Supreme Supervisor, Deneir, lesser deity of art, cartography, glyphs, images, knowledge, literature and scholars.

The rowdy party of mixed race descent were accompanied by several associates displaying the outward symbols of religious organizations headquartered within the city. The educational and religious organizations have been contacted to aid in the identification of the individuals in question.

"We don't wish to press charges," says Keeper of the Vault Haliver Mourin. "We do most emphatically want the return of materials that were removed without authorization. Our policy is that no papers or material may be removed from our grounds. If the materials are returned, we will waive prosecution of these individuals, and even provide a copy of them at standard rates of 2gp per sheet."

The village roads have been peopled with farmers since before dawn, locals rising to work the fields and stare scornfully or wide-eyed to the east, to the glow of lights of the circus that had arrived tendays ago to disrupt decent folks day...and night. The perpetual roar of music and comings and goings at all hours of city dwellers trampling the crops and stumbling drunkenly back down the road had been bad enough. Them carnies never seem to sleep, and the stench of foreign creatures in their cages is enough to curl the hairs of Old Burt's nose. But this dawn is worse.

For now, as the sun begins to touch the tassels of the Big Top, there is new excitement. Children run and dogs bark. Rising over the floating cries of carnival barkers and jangling music, new sounds begin to make themselves known in this once sleepy hamlet outside Silverymoon. Booted feet clomp in stride down a rutted path, and mail jingles. A woman's commanding voice sounds between a horse's whinny and the shriek of a caged creature. "Sergeant, post men there and there. You, with me! Spellguard, I'll have your council if you will, in a moment. Stay close. Now, where's this ringmaster? The Legion wishes to speak with him about the practices of his circus. Get me that Water Genasi over there. You, Mistress....Jenny, is it? Yes, well, what about it? Where is the one who calls himself Xavier? You can tell me on our way to the Hall of Mirrors. Let's go."

"Oh, aye, not very happy about the condition them squatters left my fields, and I'll tell anybody from here to the city about it! Well, no, they paid handsomely. But t'ain't enuff to pay fer the trouble. Mental anguish, my city cousin calls it, and that's purt' near it. Told him to tell everybody he knows what they done to my stock and land. My herd ain't milkin'; my horses ain't got nuthin but tore up grass and mud to graze. And the rubbish they left! Beams and broke things they didn't think was good enough for them, just left scattering my land.

"What? Ain't ya been listening, ya damn fool? What's that? Oh. Yer pardon, brother. But were ya so deep in your paint pots ya didn't hear? The whole circus, up and gone afore dawn. No, I don't know where. To the hells, I hope. Be'twixt the last soldier frog marching out of here and Lathander's rising, jest gone. Magic? Not unless them ruts and wagon tracks dug clear to the cobbled road and the refuse dropped along it towards the city is magic, too. No, them wagons left like anybody else what gets up and takes a sh... er... gets up every morning and pulls their pants up. But I can see you seen it, too, by what yer painting there? Huh? Whaddya call it? Striking The Curtain? And yer giving it to me? Well, it's better'n what them tumbling ruffians left me. I'll tack it up on the paddock as a reminder to them that my grazing land ain't for rent no more to their kind."

The Great Guide leads those who pass away into their next life. Blessings be upon all who live and die in the natural order, but Kelemvor condemns the undead to destruction! The crypt at Wendover has recently been the source of unsettling rumors. The dead crawl up from their graves with more frequency, bony fingers breaking through the soil to claw skeletal figures to their feet. Zombies stagger splay-legged from tombstone to statues and turn rotting eyes towards all passers-by.

Father Ra, hearing of these foul and unnatural activities, blessed a great amount of Rauvin water yesterday evening and sent it off immediately on a wagon with an itinerant Kelemvorite towards Wendover. The sharecroppers of the Wands Estate sent him a message to ask when that wagon was arriving, it doesn't seem to have passed them yet. Father Ra believes faithfully that there is no reason to panic yet, but is requesting that anybody traveling between his post at the Rivermoot Crypt and Wendover report back if they have encountered the Wagon of Holy Water.

BOUNTY

Let it be known that a toll of death is levied upon members of the orc tribes raiding the persons, property and roads of the Silver Marches.

The Silver Marches will reward proof of death of orcish bandits. A fee not to exceed Two (2) pieces of Gold shall be paid upon receipt of One (1) ear per monster destroyed until such a time as their depredations shall cease. Bounties should be claimed at the Hawk's Nest Fort, where the Knights in Silver guard against the descent of lawlessness from the uncivilized peaks.

Caravans are warned that hostile activity in the passes of the Nether Mountains is on the rise. Loss of life, vile actions, and theft of property and personage has been reported. Artists composite of survivors' accounts of the leadership of these orcish raids attached below. If you see these monsters, report it!

*Tacked up on the door of the Vault of Sages, on a broadsheet embossed with a symbol of seven suns surrounding a shield*

Is a Trade War brewing in the Marches?

Trade has slowed to a trickle between Silverymoon and Everlund. Although none may match the puissance of Silverymoon, the prime signatory of the Confederacy, Everlund has always given what she can to the support of Law and Goodness. These two pillars of the Marches have walked hand in hand through so many dangers, but will current prosperity be the undoing of a long civic friendship? Rumor has it that where threats once brought the Confederacy to stand shoulder to shoulder, peace and gold may turn blade against Shield.

Indeed, the Everlundian Shield family of the charitable Seven Suns Coster claim that they are the victim of unfair taxes handed down by the autocratic rulers of Silverymoon in favor of their own merchants. The "Seven Suns is the paramount trading coster across Faerun," Garald Shield was recently overheard saying. "No doubt the corrupt, money-grubbing High Mage of Silverymoon who grinds his people under his thumb, knows that the merchants that bankroll him stand no chance in an open market with their rotting grain and poor-quality workmanship! We have no recourse but to stop such dangerous goods from entering Everlund, and will do so until tariffs are reduced on our own caravans."

Shield, the head of the Everlundian branch of the Seven Suns, went on: "We paid for the building of a bridge over the Rauvin in the hopes of opening a new era of prosperity with our greedy neighbor to the north. Even as permits and bakshish were demanded by the Confederacy, delaying construction for so long, we soldiered on, hoping that our friendship and investment would be rewarded. That bridge is finally open, but what should have been a handshake between our two regions is instead a leveled blade, and the Shields will stand firm against it."

Everlund is closed to caravan trade, unless it is carried on Seven Suns wagons. Cargo headed for Everlund by the new, much shorter route of the bridge of the Striding Giant Rapids must be unloaded, inspected, and then transferred to Seven Suns wagons. Until unfair taxes from Silverymoon on Everlundian goods are lifted, this embargo will remain in place.

Rumors spread at the Lady's College about an Elven student who apparently has been binge reading every tome he can get his hands on in the Library. It is said that he comes and goes, but when he is present he spends days at a stretch poring over maps and books without rest, furiously taking notes in a journal, occasionally muttering to himself - until dark circles appear under his eyes (an uncommon occurrence with Elves).

He then seems to disappear for days, until his next return, when the pattern of behavior repeats once more to the point of obvious exhaustion. He also seems to eat little for these stretches, and occasionally can be heard muttering quietly under his breath as if speaking to himself or another who is unseen.

Coincidentally, a note requesting a room at the College has been left on the desk of the Registrar, simply signed 'Kythorn' in hasty, unkempt scrawl.
