Word around town is that the old thread was getting far too long and someone seems to have opened a new Tavern Knowledge thread just here.

  • In the past ten days or so, numerous husks of people have been found wandering in a mindless saze along the river between High Hold and Silverymoon. The reason the term husks is used, is that is exactly what these people seem to be - an empty body without any soul or memory. Some people whisper about an evil genie eating souls of people.
  • There has been a lot of talk recently, by those who have far too much free time, about the upcoming marriage between the son of a wealthy merchant, Armand Leroux, and Jessica Reuter, member of the Reuter family, reknown for their bookbinding works. This wedding seems to coincide nicely with the upcoming printing of the Bumblebee Bandit - a book celebrating a local folk hero. While most of the town cannot read, the book is considered of a particular scholarly interest, not to mention those children lucky enough to have literate (and well off) parents/tutors. Most of the copies of the book seem to have been pre-purchased.
  • A few rumours seem to be coming out of the Fiax Manor recently. A couple of the household servants, after a few drinks, have been over heard saying that their master - the large land holder and reknown dairy manager, Lord Fiax - has been suffering from deteriating health in the past month, after a long ride he took west to dine with a visiting Waterdavian noble. An Illmateri priest has been sighted making numerous visits. With no named heir, after the tragic death of his two sons, there is much talk about what will happen to his holdings should this bout of illness be the Lord's final.
  • It has also become pretty common knowledge that in the main audience hall, the realm of Lord Fiax's top adviser, Minster Paul, a large wyvern head has been mounted on the wall.
  • It seems a large family of gypsies have recently arrived in the lands after crossing over the great desert to the east. People are warned by the local authorities to hold tight to any possessions they don't with lost. Some of the more gossip prone locals will happily tell anyone who is willing to listen about how these gypsies make pacts with devils and demons.
  • Since the end of the siege of Rivermoot, a small black-clad figure has been seen pacing around the outskirts of Rivermoot, disappearing from sight any time someone tries approach him.

Iron Heart

Post by hollyfant »

At a few places around the Silverymoon docks as well as in the rougher taverns the following has been posted (and the barkeepers paid to read it out).

The Iron Heart seeks able men and women to bolster their numbers.
All races welcome. Hotheads need not apply.
We can get you a sword or an axe, but not common sense. Bring your own.
Ask for Morris the Grey or Gill Blake.

Also:
The Iron Heart is available for your guarding, escorting or protective needs. Fair rates. No feuds. No acts against local laws. Find us or leave word at the Bright Blades Brandished.

Since his recovery from the ogre attack a tenday past, Rathalan Whitsword has been publicly and vocally advocating for action against the evil sorceress known as Vinia.

In his public sermons he has spoken to commoners and militia alike on the corruption associated with even taking words with the creature in human form.

He has repeatedly stated that any man who stood against her either with blade or spells or merely righteous defiance is a hero to the Marches. Any soldier or sellsword who brought Vinia to custody either in death or in life would be praised with greatness and would know a true hero's welcome.

Helm bless the dutiful man that slays the murderess witch.

While some commoners and legion soldiery seem pleased by Sir Rathalan's staunch condemnations of Vinia, there are many that scoff openly and claim Vinia is a lady wronged by the actions of Lt. Pomador and Sir Rathalan. It is no small task to engage her supporters and hear a litany of her good deeds in recent weeks, and some even venture to accuse Lemuel Ogdenstorm and Grull of molestation of her in scandalous terms.

There is quite a bit of gossip floating about the Golden Oak...it seems there was quite an uproar after Shatril the doorelf expelled a lovely human maiden rumoured to be "Vinia of the Tower" (though just who or what that personage is seems to be a matter of great controversy).

The gist of the gossip seems to be that Liana informed Shatril of Vinia's presence, and that Shatril then sent word to the House Invincible and ordered Vinia out. Most seem to comment that Vinia left graciously, despite protests of an unknown human gentlewoman with airs of entitlement.

The real stir, it is said, is when a Watchknight and Watchblade entered shortly after Vinia departed, and began to search the Inn. It it rumoured the Helmites were quite strident in their search, and that great patches of Liana's gardens were damaged and several doors kicked from their hinges. After a loud dispute between the Watchknight and Lady Laniara, Andiron Rydrilow, and Shatril (all three, along with a more subdued Lania, took exception to the Helmite's search methods), the Helmites left in foul temper.

Once again the Dwarf Garlus of Clan Ironbeard can be seen shuffling through the upstairs halls of the Vault of the Sages, with many books in hand. It is whispered by those brazen enough to near the dwarf that the many books he has pulled and is vigorously pouring over contains what appears to be ancient writing of Runescripts. Even more profound are the small hammer and great battlehammer laying on the table near the books with similar runes engraved upon them.

Submersive subversives (18 Oct 09 23:16 local)
Guard duty in rivermoot is usually boring (though lately, with the exploits of that winbag general, that could change) but today's afternoon section had a chuckle over dinner. it seems the guards watched as a dwarf helped a halfling back onto shore after she rolled into the water. guards didn't explain why she did that, only she looked quite the wet cat (her pet rabbit had no comment as it took off like a bat outta hell)... when questioned, they described the hin as 'feral' or 'dumb sounding' but quite ferce when wet...

A loud explosion could be heard, late this afternoon, coming from the Clockwork tower. Those as far away as High Hold heard the explosion, and could witness a gnome running in a mad panic towards the tower.

An extremely irate Garlus Ironbeard was seen storming from the Lady's college, puffs of dust, soil and rock falling from him, exclaiming that wizards are as mad as hatters.

Word within the University is that a letter has been found nailed to the outside door of the college. In common, it reads:

"University humans,

I have now been witness to three of the trials which have so recently sparked fervor in your mages. Two of those three could have seen five deaths altogether. Though precautions have been taken for some of your trials, others have none. It is not only irresponsible, it is negligent. Had it not been for the quick actions of myself and Mage Lanneseph, one of my kin could have died. Were it not for the quick thinking of Mage Wands, I myself could have perished along with three others. So far, Tymora has been on your side...but Beshaba WILL rear her ugly head eventually. How will you deal with this....what letter will you write to the parents of the one who dies because of your decision to cram thirty years of experience into two moons? How will you deal with the blood that will be on your hands?

As for me, I know how I will deal. From this point, any wizard that recieves help from a dwarfkin, is responsible for that dwarfkins life. If a dwarf dies because of one of these trials, going to or coming from, the mage responsible for the dwarf had best die with the dwarf....for a worse fate will await you, I swear on my Clan Sigil, should I find you after. Any who stand between myself and such a mage will also see an early end. You may sacrifice your own kind to this foolishness. I will not stand by while you sacrifice mine.

Talhund Garlus, Clan Ironbeard.

Rathalan Whitsword was seen just after dawn this morning leading patrol of Watchknights throughout the city of Silverymoon.

He was apparantly asking the citizenry a number of questions and showing pictures of two elves, one male and one female.

Many Silverymoon citizens and a few guards of the Kngihts in SIlver witnessed some excitement at the Hunter's Gate.

Most report that a dark elf came running through the gate at high sun, with a huge snarling boar, twice the size of a horse, at his heels. The beast lept to pounce upon the dark skinned elf, but just as this happened, the elf crossed thee threshold of the city walls and the boar dissolved away into mist.

People stood stunned at the sight as the dark elf slipped away into some alleyways nearby.

A few moments later a Watchknight of Helm came upon to the gates, winded from running, and red faced. He named the dark elf as a wanted criminal.

An off-duty guard was heard to speak about a meeting between the Vigilant Master of House Invincible and the Dean of the Lady's College. The two seemed polite but guarded with each other, and at times their expressions seemed to indicate some friction between the two. It was seen that gold exchanged hands from the Dean to the Vigilant Master, and the name Jorus Azuremantle was overheard. Lord Azuremantle is, of course, the chief of the Spellguard, but what that had to do with the money or the discussion was not part of the guard's conversation. Watchknight Whitsword was seen in company with the Vigilant Master thereafter, however, and was presumed to know more.
