New Player Ready to Roll

Post by BillCourage »

Hey guys,

New player here. Call me Bill. I am excited to roll up a toon and get immersed in the world of Faerun.

Are there any ground rules I should know about?

I hope to play a ranger from the Uthgardt tribes. Are there any tribes that are particularly over/under played in this PW? Are there any off limits?

I want to play a character who's lived away from his tribe and returns in an effort to broker peace between them and the civilized cities.

Also, I had a few questions regarding the gods. There are just so many (I was never a huge fan of the setting, so my knowledge isn't the best). Hypothetically, if there was one particular god that is revered by the people of the Silver Marches and also by the Uthgardt, it's likely Chauntea, yes? Are there many druids/rangers of this faith?

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I am starting out and I am currently stuck in the first area (river merchant) without any money.

I guess I will enter the world (without any gear!) and hope a DM reimburses me. Unless anyone has a better suggestion?

There is a Player Guide just for you! It should answer your general questions:

http://www.alandfaraway.org/Guide

Also, not sure which server you logged into? I can help you out if I see you online, but I don't recall a river merchant off the top of my head. You should start off with 300 gold I think? There is a link on the left side of our website to IRC Chat. You can seek help there if you continue to have trouble.

I hope that if you are playing an Uthgardt you are worshipping their chosen god and namesake, the mighty Uthgar.

Paraphrased from the FR campaign setting book, pg 168. Not sure how much has changed within ALFA's own story lines but here is some good info on the other gods the Uthgardt pray to.

The Black Lion tribe mostly gave up worship of Uthgar and pray to Helm, Ilmater, Torm and Tyr. The other tribes don't like them so much for it however.

Many Elk Tribe (actually little more than bandits) worship Talos, again not well like by the other tribes.

Sky Pony is fanatically devoted to Tempus, Uthgars ally and the god responsible for his own deification. The tribes don't hate these guys.

OR if that doesn't do it for ya you could always roll up someone from a more cultured southern land like Calimshan instead of an uncivilized northern barbarian.

Regardless, welcome to ALFA!

Starting out with no money happens when you pick a toon name somenoe already used before. So that could be it. Try and start the fella again with a small name vairation and it should be alright (or wait till you randomly encounter a DM).

Welcome! I recognize your nickname from other PWs I have played on. I think we have played together before. You will love ALFA. I am currently playing an Uthgardt survivor of the Blue Bear tribe. Look me up IG for fun.

In the Silver Marches there is some "in game" backstory around a couple of the tribes up around Settlestone, who were mostly destroyed by orc raids and due to some necromantic contamination many turned into undead roaming the area.

Black Raven and Gray Wolf were the ones involved I think. Curmudgeon (HDM of TSL) would probably fill in better.

Dorn is also playing an Uthgardt atm in addition to OGR's guy.

As for gear, you should have 300 gp in your inventory to equip. When you leave the river merchant you will start in a safe area of Rivermoot or inside Silverymoon... and can buy what you need for a level 1 there.

Hope to see you in there soon!!
