Taken from the readme.txt file....
(a) Start the game with the included NWLauncher program (recommended).

1) Run NWLauncher.exe and the game will start with the client extension
already active. You need to keep NWLauncher.exe and ClientExtension.hdl
in the same place for the launcher to work correctly.

It is recommended that you use the game in windowed mode to get the most
out of the client extension.

You may pass command line arguments to the game by providing them to
NWLauncher.exe, e.g. by creating a shortcut. This is useful for launching
the game in DM mode with the -dmc option.

2) Log on to your server as normal and play the game.

(b) Apply the client extension after starting the game.

1) (First time only.) Double-click hdlinstall.reg to install support for .hdl
files. You only need to perform this step once per computer.

2) Start Neverwinter Nights 2 in normal or DM client mode, and go to the main
menu. It is recommended that you use Neverwinter Nights 2 in windowed mode
but this is not strictly required.

3) Navigate to where you have placed ClientExtension.hdl in Explorer,
right-click the ClientExtension.hdl file, and choose the 'Apply' option
from the menu that appears.

4) Log on to your server as normal. You must follow steps 3-5 again each time
you exit Neverwinter Nights 2. Be sure to apply the extension -before- you
log on to your server.

I've not seen anything not work as advertised with the extension, but the lag ranges from seconds to tens of seconds, making the game unplayeable. (Tried again using this extension last time I played) I've been playing with the client itself full screen.

I'll try without the map, but the map and group movement commands seems to be the main reason to use this in the first place.

Maybe it has to do with OS, I'm still using XP. Perhaps this works better on 7?

I'm using 7.
Well... and yes. the only use I found so far without the map is the chat box which is good if you wanna preper descriptions before hand then copy paste it there.
which is kinda cool.

As for the map maybe you can open it only when needed and keep it closed the rest of the time? not sure yet, still fiddeling and learning.

As a player (obv.) I found the reduced framerate with the CE wireframe map window open to be unacceptably low, so I turned it off and everything was once again as smooth as a baby's bottom.

Tech here suggests the use of the Client Extension because it contains valuable bug fixes and makes available functionality that the ACR uses-- all available if you close the extra CE windows.

1. You can open the chat window and paste into it. We are supposed to be able to use it to paste into our Kemo descriptions but I have yet to make it work.

2. You can hit the "up" arrow and read and resend everything said even before you opened the chat window including tells

3. You can open the map from client and click to move any where on that map. There are a variety of letter keys that IF you hit them while the map is selected will give 100 different views of an area (T, N, Z, and a bunch of others). For example you will see a blue square for an AT. You can click on that AT and move across the entire area and AT out. Or a Door. You will move across the area (and through mobs) and to that door and open it.

4. It stabilizes the program of NWN2 and makes for less crashes to local UI related issues.

5. It saves a master log of EVERY session you do from the time you installed NWN2. Its called nwn2report.log and in your c:/programs/atari/nwn folder.

As a Dm it does a whole lot more.

1. You can teleport a player from one map to another without jumping in the map window that lets you preview the map you are jumping them too.

2. You can click on a player and immediately see their location and their description AND their character sheet.

3.And probably a bunch of stuff I don't know that Zelk or Curm does know.

Everything cloud said, plus a handful of different things that we can tell your client to do by script, which helps along with little conveniences (like staging cross-server tells).

Summarizing from the documentation file.

By default, only static placeable wireframes are turned on. If you accidentally bumped the drawing layer up to creature wireframes, performance may suffer.

If you are having performance issues with the map, click on the map and hit T until the console window says that the drawing later is 'Pathing orders'. The default is wireframes for static objects (one level above that), but if you hit T by mistake with the map selected, you may have bumped yourself up into one of the slower drawing modes.

Alternatively, close or minimize the map.
