Important Notice For Builders Regarding 1.23

Post by Curmudgeon »

Please read this Important Warning for Builder/Players or Builder/DMs.

The Autodownloader ("ADL"), which ALFA will be using, operates differently from WorldGate. Logging on to an ADL server will overwrite several critical files in your NWN2 folders.

GF suggests a fairly simple and effective workaround for this issue. Please take heed unless you want your work modifying server areas to be lost.

Pardon my newbishness...

does this mean, prior to upgrading to 1.23, we'll need to change some paths, somewhere? Move some directories around?

Only if you have copies of any of the modules you will log into stored in your /modules directory. So, DMs logging into their server (say, alfa010_bg), who also had a copy of the alfa010_bg module in their /modules folder, would end up losing their copy of the mod (along with any changes made to it) when logging into BG to DM. If they'd saved it under another name, though, it would be fine.

Those most affected by the change are folks like Wynna or myself (or Beta host/builders) who frequently toolset, then load their edited module to join for testing. Without special precautions, whatever work had been done on the module may be overwritten by the incoming walkmesh files.

Another safeguard is to default the "Require synchronization of game resources" to "OFF/0" in the nwn2player.ini when testing, though this means any others trying to test your mod would need to separately download the PWC and/or haks.

So - if I read this correctly - if you are simply building ALFA areas using the base mod, areas which will be imported to an official server by their DM team, no changes need be made?

Yes. The warning in the OP is specific to those builders creating and/or testing a module or maintaining an existing module. For them the easiest way around the issue is to rename their builds-in-progress to something different from the hosted module.
