The Great Spawn Revamp

Post by Castano »

Riotnrrd has been hard at work revamping MS's spawns.

He is moving us to a much more complex, BG-style system so expect to see changes over the next month.

That was the subtext I intended to convey :)

I just want to say that 96-hour responsiveness to my prior b*tching sets a dangerous precedent ;)

OK guys, I've submitted version 1.0 to Castano, and alerted the DMs... you should start to see some changes very soon :)

DETAILS:
I've added a system of random spawns. There are several area appropriate groups, and each group will have a random composition. For example, you might see 1d3+1 bandits and 1d2 bandit leaders, or 1d4+1 orcs, etc. There's a lot of variation, including different tables for day and night. Often the worst stuff comes out at night, so be careful!

By request, the first encounters have been designed for EL 1-5. This means a party of 3rd level PCs SHOULD be able to live through most of it, though the higher level spawns might be deadly, especially if a party is not well balanced or equipped!

TAKE A SCOUT WITH YOU. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

47 creatures have been added or updated to better reflect 3.5 canon sources. Monsters will have ranged weapons where they should, special qualities like damage reduction where they should, correct CRs, feats, skills, etc. Please do not assume monsters you have fought before will be the same All should be true to canon.

9 areas have been updated to start. I've updated the DMs with the particulars, but I can tell you generally the wild areas on Gwynneth and the Farheights have been changed. The Farheights have encounters above EL 5, so be careful!

REQUEST FOR FEEDBACK:
I'm particularly interested in receiving feedback. It is my hope to improve and maintain the system and make it available for other servers. Your comments on feel, danger, creature abilities, and so forth are very very valuable. In exchange for the hours I put into this so you can have fun, please help me improve the experience by posting your thoughts and experiences!

Thanks for your hard work on this. This will make me think twice about taking that vanilla mail run which is as it should be. :)

Hey mate,

I'm trying to build a 'worldserver' which is basically overland maps connecting the existing servers, a range of full sized maps to be imported and taken out at the request of DMs who want to run adventures to 'famous' places not in our current home servers, and a bunch of 'encounter' areas for spawned combat or merchants etc

I wonder if the system you impemented for castano might be able to be used for the encounter areas.

So basically walking along an overland area, you have a % chance of an enoucounter, if you are unlucky you move to full scale area and see 'x' who charge you.

Seems your system would be great for sorting out an 'x'???
