Some Education - Skaug

Hi All,
dont be put off by the rude title of this thread, i only wish t inform those less familiar with the islands off the west.
Attached is a 4ed map (i know lots of things have changed), the reason its attached because low and behold Skaug is firmly on the map in the Nelanther Isles.
you can roughly see the outline of the Moonshae isles to the north and can get a picture that skaug is more like a weeks trip rather then an overnight ferry. So please rp this when you journey there.
The inhabitants of skaug will be changing in the next few weeks to reflect its true colours. Its a pirate port, they raid and pillage along the coast. For those history buffs they are part of the monster army blocade on Murann in Amn which according to 4th edition never ended and so its Known as the monster kingdoms. (this doesnt tie into history on the Amn server)
anyway Skaug is open to those of a less questionable nature, alignments tend to be non good, but that doesnt mean you will be killed on sight, more like you might have to make difficult choices that might affect your alignment.

More information about SKaug can be found in the old 2nd ed pdf Lands of Intrigue-
Skaug
(Fortified Town/ Island; PiratesÂ’ Major Port)
Skaug is the only major island settlement that has reached the size of a town and welcomes others to it. Skaug can handle up to 40 ships at its docks, in addition to the 15 ships of the Skaug Corsairs, its defenders and primary hosts. The founder of this pirates port was Captain Skaug, a hooknosed pirate who used his money and three ships full of stolen lumber and supplies to build the settlement on a small island north of Ioma. Two hundred years later, this port is now a thriving town, making its money by catering to other pirates.
Population: 1,400 permanent residents (96% human, 4% other), though visitors can add up to 1,000 more people to the city; 300 others live elsewhere on the island.
Major Products: Shipwrights, mercenaries; port amenities (rum, beer, ale, money-changing, gambling, festhalls, etc.).

Hi all,
Skaug gets a major revamp this week, and yes some things have changed.
1) The temple of umberlee no longer exists outside in wild skaug although the building is still there. Instead it has now been moved into the cliff face in new skaug.
2) The crossbow has been shrunk, remember its mainly for fighting and festhall
3) The Keelhaul probably the best revamp of the new interiors this was one of my favorite interiors. It is now a stinking den of fighting with live brawling on the stands below!!! it also has rooms upstairs.
4) The hostel has had its interior altered
5) Apple Barrel, probably one of the now most potential interesting inn's, it includes my gambling systems. Please not this establishment is owned by Sabion De Toni(npc).
6) Wizard Tower - revamped to actually be a tower... beware going up the floors!!!
7) Healer - is now a shrine to Chauntea, the only good aligned diety on the isle.

Church - now temple of kelemvor.
9) the gibed sail, interior revamped!
10) temple of ishtisia - revamped interior.
11) Maliceprow manor interiors added!

That is awesome, Trid! Thank you so much for building out all of Skaug, DMing it, and for giving me that +4 mithril chain shirt of etherealness that I am wholly confident is just waiting in there for me somewhere!

That's a good deal, Dergon. As your attorney, I advise you to take it.

Absolutely amazing Trid.
You are making me teh happys.
I've been trying to find a way to quit my Real Life to try and join your DM sessions each week, but unfortunately my bloody wife and daughter insist on "eating" EVERY day. ((bitches))
*ahem* moving on...
Ok, let's chat. You say it's a week's trip. Will PCs be expected to not go to Skaug from Corwell and return same day? or even next day? For instance, if a PC travels to Skaug from Corwell, the players must realise before going that they must stay there for 24 hours real time before returning to Corwell?
I have no problem ever doing this.
But if it's not enforced, it's really not hard to bounce back and forth many times for anyone, especially since it dosen't even cost any gold to go there and back.
Currently to cross servers, we're only supposed to wait 24 hours as you know. Why not make the same limitation "within" Moonshaes.
I suggest making the trip cost gold coins first of all. AND, possibly coding in the same "cross server" time restriction somehow to avoid PCs crossing back and forth even once in the same day.... just fire on one of those timers when PCs talk to the Captains between Skaug and Corwell, that checks the last trip made, and if 24 hours have not passed, that PC is OOC warned that he/she cannot cross...and in effect the AT transition will not even allow them to cross...until the 24 hours passes.
*shrugs*
I don't care if it's inconvenient. I'm willing to wait if it makes sense.

The distance time issue is widely known as a problem. The only thing i can currently recommend is that moving from or to skaug you should rp that you have been stuck on a boat for a week. So saying something like "I met him yesterday in Corwell" when you are on skaug makes zero sense.
The cost of a trip from skaug to corwell makes sense but at present is not enforced. I will be revisiting this briefly when i open Calimport(Calimshan) for players to visit this will likely cost 20 coin but is essential for those wishing to take part in an upcoming sunday session

I will not limit transit within the core Moonshaes areas by price/time limits etc. unless ALFA charges or makes waits for walked/ridden/land caravan distance on BG or TSM too. The penalty is too much to our players some of whome may only play one day a week and need to fit a few weeks worth of game time into 1-2 sessions.
Also, Skaug's transit has an IC component you should all be aware of...the npc text has meaning...you are signing on to crew a smuggler's ship.
Charging for add on areas like calimport makes sense, though - ideally these are visted with a DM though, but I won't impose that rule on people who want to go there.
