So, warlocks...

I will admit i know very little about them, particularly how they fit into canon. All i have is a more general knowledge that may not be true to FR. So, a few questions:

What exactly is the source of their power? At the least in popular culture (basically the extent of my knowledge) Warlocks are portrayed as getting their power from more infernal or demonic sources.

I suppose the next couple of questions are fairly well related to the first:

1) Are warlocks generally evil? (i suppose this would be no if their power source is not inherently evil)

2) Would a warlocks invocations 'feel' different to a mage?

My character (a mage) encountered his first one tonight and im just not sure how one would react to them or whether their invocations would 'feel' different to a regular spellcaster or not. I played at as though he just felt there was something strange about the (quickly dead) warlock, but i wouldn't mind getting a little more definitive answers.

There is not a lot about Warlocks in Faerun out there. Here's a couple of articles which may be a good place to check out (Warlocks Part 1 & 2 are the WOTC articles):

The WOTC publishing machine is dedicated to 4E right now, so I wouldn't expect much to pop up relevant to 3.5E anymore. So unlike other cases of hastily retrofitting canon to fit new classes, I'd predict only token efforts to explain "oh these guys have been here all along doing important things."

Those more deep in FR lore will probably be able to drum up better resources than the above.
