Familiar modifications are definite on my to-do list, but I don't want them to be disposable meat shields.

I'm looking at a mix, some combat ish like hell hound, and some that boost your skills when they are out. Having appraisal boost might be significant for some chars.

ALFA 1/WD it requires a DM to reset for you via the wand.

There are heads missing from the Character Customizer in character creation area. I have only tried Human heads but there are quite a few that used to be available that no longer show up. You can come try Waterdeep! It is a lot more friendly for low level, though still lethal if you aren't careful. We also have improved barbarian rage, animal taming, golem crafting, weapon/armor crafting, and even enchanting! Also I'm Euro timezone (mostly). Would love to start up a regular Euro gam...
