Citadel of Strategic Militancy

Guarding the Gate

Dawn at the Citadel

Image

I am picking up the Citadel as a new long term campaign, preferably during US Saturday nights. It will start out initially on BG, but could easily find us travelling to any of the other servers. Brief background; I previously ran a Citadel campaign on our NWN1 BG server for several months when I was HDM there.

An interior for the Citadel should be added in next week, as well as the main gate getting unlocked. I've finished fleshing out the major named NPCs and will picking this back up, preferably on Saturday nights going forward. Preference will be given to followers of the Red Knight (I know of three, two active presently).

The citadel may have some need for adventurers on a regular basis, which I will advertise in game or in IC forums. However there is a Red War College which PCs may attend for training. There is an admissions process so you must apply IG with an NPC in order to attend classes. The three main branches focus on three aspects: warfare, arcana, and the ranger school.

Any PC with at least one cleric level who venerates the Red Knight may automatically join this faction and live at the Citadel. Do not take a cleric level unless you are ready to actively roleplay as a member of the clergy. If you are interested in the Red Knight, the Citadel, or the Red War College and want more information to read through:

Wizard classes would be awesome, and a great reason to come visit BG :)

Sniper - Specializes in long range damage spells against a single opponent.
Strategist - Concentrates in battlefield mobility. Haste, grease, slow, etc
Blaster - Direct damage. War wizards come from here. Have the ground pounders herd enemies into tight groups, then destroy them

I have some great source info if you'd like to collaborate...

NOW I see this, a day after I start a new PC and thus retire Vellya. Hmmph. C'est la vie.

It looks nice Heegz. If multiple PCs are ever allowed, I'll set Vellya up here - she's from the islands originally anyway (well, Ruathym is not technically part of the Moonshaes, but its close!).

When you commented in Duck's thread, I left a message saying I was working on this, hoping to entice you to come back to playing. Perhaps I should have PM'd you...

You know, I saw your reply in Duck's thread, but I had no idea what you were talking about, so I just passed it by. Serves me right for not inquiring I guess.

I just digitized and colorized my working sketch of the Citadel:

If there are any castle buffs out there I would appreciate some feedback on the layout and design before I start toolsetting in earnest. Any other requests or ideas are also welcome.

OK, as a student of Medieval European history and a long time castle buff, what I would ask is - where is your sally-port? By the time of stone castles, they virtually all had sally-ports.

Awesome, that is exactly the kind of info I am after. Do you think it would benefit to add one into the castle defences, or should they rely upon magical teleportation for sorties during a seige?

I think they would have a physical one, just in case, unless the Lord is a wizard capable of making the teleportation happen. In short, whoever is the real master/mistress of the castle is going to want a secondary way out they can use/operate on their own without specialized help needed. That would be my take on it.

P.S. What is the castle's water source? The moat? That would be a poor choice since its easily accessible (poisonable) by the enemy, so you'd want a well. And if not a well, then large cisterns filled by rain and such, or very large undercrofts filled with siege supplies.

Okay, I've got a few locations I can use for a sally port. Also, the water supply is secure. Going to have a spring and wells, etc. Perhaps a few underground cisterns for sieges, but it shouldn't be an issue. Not to mention the many clerics and paladins being able to create water via the spell.
