Adventurers seek gold, glory, justice, fame, power or knowledge, or perhaps other goals, some noble and some base. Each chooses a different way to achieve those goals, from brutal combat power, to mighty magic, to subtle skills. Some adventurers prevail and grow in experience, wealth and power. Others die. -- Player's Handbook

A character's class represents their profession, training, or vocation. It determines their ability to be deadly in combat, their magical abilities, effective skills, and much more.

Inside A Land Far Away, the classes available to the player are the same as those found in Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansions, with some additions. However, there are a few cases where things may differ, whether it’s how we handle them in ALFA, or how the actual mechanics differ. Even if you are familiar with the different classes, it can't hurt to have a quick skim over the following entries. If you are not familiar with the Forgotten Realms, and Dungeon and Dragons, classes - you'll find a handful of links below which should full you in on the basics.

Additionally, NPC and creature classes are linked here. While most players may not be interested in these entries, world builders can use these classes to create content.

Character Classes

Base classes have no or loose requirements, and with few exception, anyone is able to play them. These classes give your character the ability to cast magic spells, use a two handed axes, effectively use heavy armor and shields, disarm traps, and sing inspiring ballads.

Classes marked with an asterisk (*) are deemed exceptional. You must acquire permission prior to playing one.

Bard
Masters of both music and knowledge, bards travel through the lands, inspiring adventurers and weaving tales.
Cleric
Faerun's deities are alive and active in the world. Most choose to exert their will not directly, but through their faithful clerics.
Druid
One with nature, druids employ powerful magic. Some are said to have the power to shed their skin, and take on the form of beasts.
Favored Soul
Seen as blessed or favored, these souls do not pray or gather for their divine connection. Instead, they are born with it.
Fighter
A bloody axe. A half-broken shield. A slain ogre, under a mighty boot. Fighters are the muscle, the champions, the defenders, the warriors.
Monk
From cloistered monasteries, these versatile, code-driven warriors are capable of holding their own, with only their own hands and feet.
Paladin
Both moral and ethical, few can claim the paladin's path. Those who do are an undeniable force against evil.
Ranger
At home among nature, rangers can be duel-wielding warriors, flanking their trusted animal companion. Or, they may just be a shadow in the forest, capable of striking an enemy from a distance with their bow.
Rogue
Thugs, cutthroats, spies, diplomats, scouts. Rogues are versatile, picking up new skills, trades, and pockets unlike most others.
Sorcerer
Born of arcane power, sorcerers require no study, no books, no teachers. Only their blood and their will are needed to devastate their enemies.
Spirit Shaman
Few understand spirits as these shamans do. Their divine connection gives them power over spirit creatures, as well as natural spells.
Swashbuckler
These daring, agile, and intelligent warriors are as effective in a quick battle as they are in a social gathering.
Warlock
Tapping into their very soul, warlocks are capable of peerless invocations of power.
Wizard
Through sheer mental effort, wizards are able to study, and understand arcane magic. A prepared wizard is a terrible thing to behold.

Prestige Classes

Prestige classes are as diverse as those who use them. Access to a faction, racial abilities, multiclassing, or specific events can qualify you for prestige classes. All prestige classes are considered exceptional, and require approval to unlock.

Arcane Archer
The Elves of Faerun have trained to uniquely combine their arcane talents with their proficiency at archery. Arcane arches are renown for being supreme masters of archery, able to imbue their arrows with magical energy.
Arcane Scholar
Arcane Scholars seek to raise the study of magic to the level of an academic discipline. Their interest is not in researching new spells or finding more specialized uses for their craft, but in understanding the fundamental processes of magic and the inner workings of the Weave, which is the fabric that underlies all magic.
Arcane Trickster
These mischevious few are able to combine their rogueish talents with their arcane training.
Assassin
Masters of ending a surprised opponent quickly and efficiency, assassins are adept at using poisons and striking their foes from the shadows.
Blackguard
While the paladin embodies morality and ethics, the blackguard could not be more opposite. He consorts with demins, devils, dark deities, and the undead to fulfil his desires.
Bladesinger
Champions of Elven communities, Bladesingers combine art, blade, and arcane spells into a deadly, blurred dance.
Divine Champion
These warriors swear their lives to a deity's purpose. Potent fighters, they defend their faith, and destroy its enemies.
Doomguide
Sworn to Kelemvor, these undead-loathing divine warriors help to guide mortals through their fear of death.
